From a personal standpoint and from observing others, I have never seen someone eat a whole entire apple. I have seen people throw away the last third, I have seen those who nibble it down to the “core”, I have seen those who de-skin it, and I have seen those who only eat apples if they are sliced. For some reason, none of these methods amount to an entire apple being consumed.

We get leftovers when we leave the restaurant and we cherish them later—my older brother cherishes them once he gets home, whether they are his own or yours. For apples, we take those remaining one-thirds and or de-skinned pieces and toss them in the trash. Maybe you do not throw away one-third, but you likely throw some of that uneaten apple into the can.

Eat more of that apple every day and get more of its benefits. Many of us are fortunate enough to have such an abundant amount of food available and the resources in order to attain it. At the same time though, many do not have these supplies let alone the resources. Eat wisely, because everything adds up and everything does matter, and strive to live longer with every health focused decision you make.

I eat an apple every day. But I must confess I do not eat the core.

It took me quite a while before I realized how much of the apple I was wasting. I was looking for a way to make eating an apple less messy so I cut it in half like below and removed the seeds. Less mess and more eaten is what resulted. Enjoy and keep eating the apples!

i usually eat the whole apple. and i would much rather throw it away in than bushes than in the trash.

The bushes can definitely utilize that unfinished apple more appropriately! LIVE longer we will!

I’m an apple lover too. Once upon a time i would eat all but the core, but now I eat all save the stem. its a hassle for me to eat around the core, and I don’t like having to look for places to throw them away.

Somewhere in the back of my memory I heard something about cyanide being in apple seeds. I tend to eat everything save those, and the stem. And I feel you about being efficient.

Yes, I have heard about the seeds of apples have cyanide within them too. I actually recently did some googling around to see how true this was and from what I gathered, the small amounts will not overwhelmingly harm you. Most recommended that if you do eat them, do not chew them, because this breaks the protective shell that houses the cyanide.

I choose not to eat them also, leaving them and the stem as the only pieces I do not eat.

I use this trick when backpacking so that I don’t have to pack out apple cores:
If you eat the apple from stem to bottom (first removing the stem of course) you can just take out the seeds as you go along. Thus, you can eat the apple whole without ever cutting it into pieces.

I used to do that, I like to cut it into halves now though. I find it to be easier on the fingers–not sticky afterwards. Either way, a whole apple is eaten. Thanks for sharing.

I usually don’t eat an entire apple, it takes so long time to eat up, so I give the rest of the apple to my rabbits. =)

Rabbits like apples too! :) And I would not consider that a waste.

“Pinocchio ate one pear in a twinkling and started to throw the core away, but Geppetto held his arm. “Oh, no, don’t throw it away! Everything in this world may be of some use!” “But the core I will not eat!” cried Pinocchio in an angry tone. “Who knows?” repeated Geppetto calmly.”
